I have an S900 FrankenMac (8500/9500 clone) and an iLamp (800 MHz G4, 17") and I'm trying to play original Starcraft between them. I didn't expect any problems, but they cannot see multiplayer games hosted on either machine in both AppleTalk and UDP networking. TCP/IP and AppleTalk are turned on on both machines. And they see each other if I turn File Sharing on.
They're connected through a Dlink Gigabit Switch, although the situation was the same when the iMac was hopping from a 10/100 Switch. The AT&T 2-Wire Gateway is providing DHCP services.
Ideas? I remember this as being pretty simple and fool proof, but I can't seem to get it to work. It's the universe's way of making me waste my time on computer issues when I want to be having fun instead.
The S900 has 9.1 installed (same result when I was booted into 8.6) and the iMac has 9.2.2. Could the newer version of 9 be the problem?
Thank you for any suggestions, humorous or helpful.
