SSD in a 12" PowerBook?

Inspired by my recent success with a CF card as an internal 2400c drive (wowza!), I am pondering purchase of an OWC SSD for my 12" PowerBook.

Has anyone tried this or similar, and if so, is it worth the considerable price involved? I really like my 12" PB, but I have a sentimental attachment also to the $250 or so I would need to spend to carry this through.

I am therefore conflicted. Any counsel, especially involving benchmarks, would be appreciated! (Benchmarks are not "out there," surprisingly, including on OWC's website, which makes me kind of nervous.)

I looked into it briefly a few years ago as a possible upgrade for my G3 iBook. Eventually I decided I probably wouldn't get much use out of it (and then a little while later got my MacBook). I don't know if the situation has changed since, but back then there was barely a handful of IDE SSDs available in the US and Europe. Japan, however had a much better selection. The bang-for-buck there was greater and would probably easily compensate for the costs involved.

Actually this thread about the OWC PATA SSD installed in a Thinkpad is pretty interesting. I came across it while a-googling, and it is the nearest thing to the benchmarks I am looking for that I have been able to locate.

I've been thinking about the same thing actually. But been wondering if that's really worth it.

I have a 12-inch PowerBook G4 (1.33GHz), but than, it is a PowerPC by the end of the day, and applications are getting more and more limited, especially I have a MacBook Pro and 2011 model MacBook Air.

The biggest issue is that I've never opened a PowerBook and the number of screws seems a bit complicated.

Please let us know how you went with the SSD.
