Sonnet surprise

mongo

6502
I was looking through some of last years acquisitions and after cracking open a 7100/66, I notice the telltale glow of purple anodize aluminum. I found a Sonnet Crescendo G3 300/1M. I must have overlooked it the first time I opened the machine or simply forgot I had it. In either case a nice surprise. It was like finding money in a jacket pocket.

Any recommendations on how best to use one of these things. Which machine should I put it in, what OS version runs best, etc. Thanks

How much RAM does the 7100 have? If it has 32MB of less, leave it with 8.1. If it has more than 32MB but less than 64, put 8.6 on it. If it has 64 or above, OS 9.1. Either way, its a nice score. :)

Btw, bluekatt, sorry to say but it won't work in a 9600, they use a totally different architecture.

The 7100/66 is a Nubus machine, that G3 will only work in Nubus machines in the PDS slot normally used for video cards.

I have a 7100/66 with a Newertech G3-250/1MB cache that has 128MB of RAM and a 9GB HD, OS 9.1 took forever to load on it, and wasn't that snappy. OS 8.1 runs much better. It has the attached PDS video passthrough which is nice since the 7100 has that funky video connector on the motherboard.
