Slow Server!

Yes. It is hanging severely today for some reason. It took me over 15 minutes to connect from clicking my bookmark to the home page and another 5 minutes to connect after clicking on The Lounge. It feels like it's being hosted on a 128k. ;D

It is quite strange...it started happening at around 12:30 pm AEST for me, if that helps anyone.

For the record, in case anyone is wondering, i cannot confirm nor deny at the moment that we're being DoS'd...yes, the forum is slower than a wet blanket, but the server seems to be responding to pings ok. *says that in a Monty Python-like voice*

Anyway, i'll get onto the admins about it when i talk to either TL or cine next.

Symptoms of a DoS, but it could well be server software related. Seems to be intermittent, dead one moment, fast and snappy the next. Other methods of communication are open still, including private chat protocols and 68kMLA's IRC channels, should we need them.

I've been on here for just a few minutes now, and it seems to have recovered. It's lasted a lot longer than before anyway, which was 3 seconds per each access before the server would seemingly crash again.

The server was responding slowly early yesterday morning, also (~8:30 AM US Eastern)... About 25 hours ago.

I was having problems with it at about 1300 GMT. It took about 5 minutes for the front page to load but by that point I gave up and decided to wait until later.

It was most likely just a software or network problem at the server end. Perhaps they're doing emergency maintenance and have to have things ticking over slowly every so often.

It does seem to have slow periods... I'll raise a ticket with my host about it.

Maybe we just all managed to log in while server maintenance was being performed. Hosting companies usually do that during their slow times to minimize service disruptions.

I noticed the slowness too. For periods I could not get on at all. Is there any way to put a packet sniffer on the incomming traffic? It should help identify if the server is being banged hard in the future.
