ShopGoodwill FTW! Sealed G4 Processor Upgrade

CD5150

6502
Won a sealed G4 CPU by XLR8 (Daystar) for a decent price. Never owned a G4 ZIF CPU so this will be interesting. Will be arriving in a couple of days and will be installed in my Rev2 G3 Blue & White.

Cool! An OWC G4 450MHz ZIF CPU made a very satisfying improvement in the performance of my B&W way back when.

Yep. Though for me, I'm going from a G3-400 to a G4-500 (possibly 550 since speed control is on the CPU upgrade module).

So I got the CPU in the mail and it works. OS9 accepted the serial number on the CPU via MachSpeed Control Panel without issue but the OSX version of MachSpeed Control Panel doesn't accept the serial. Is MachSpeed really necessary for OSX?

I believe there was a generic cache enabler that worked for G4 upgrades; I recall installing it on my B&W.
I don't currently have easy access to my Mac software from that era, but will provide details if/when I locate it.

Is it L2CacheConfig?

I believe so.

Great! What got it working?
Actually found a serial number that worked with the OS X version of MachSpeed Control Panel. I also tried overclocking the chip to 550mhz but it froze hard once the "Starting Mac OS X" text appeared on the screen while attempting to run Tiger. Regardless, I'm gonna try to get Sorbet Leopard to run on this just for the heck of it.
