Shipping a color classic

Contemplating on purchasing a Color Classic from across the country (I'm in NH).

I've ready horror stories about the Trinitron tubes having shifted grills inside from shipping. Should I even bother getting a color classic if there's a risk of that happening? Is there any way packing it more will prevent that?

Don't NEED to get a CC, there are other great choices from the seller. Only hesitant since CCs have bad cap issues and the shifted grill issue.

What many people do on ebay is take an item to a U-Ship UPS store in a mall.  Kids who do not know what they are doing, will put a little bubble wrap in a very thin cardboard box and put it in the mail.  When it arrives broken to your house, you can not deal with the seller very well as the seller will refer you to the UPS mall store.  I love UPS, do not get me wrong.  But any Tom, Dick, or Harry can open up a independent UPS shipping and packing store in a mall.  And they often employ kinds with little to no training.

I had a LC 575 arrive this way and it was completely broken.

If you visit your local U-Hall store in your area you can see thin cardboard boxes and heavy duty thick card board boxes.

On occasion, I tell a seller I will over pay them $25.00 if they do the following -

Buy a heavy duty card board box at U-Hall.  Wrap the package in bubble wrap.  Put the package in the heavy duty cardboard box. Wrap that box in bubble wrap and put it in a  second heavy duty cardboard box.

Usually this works for me....

Just an FYI....

Yup, thanks for the info. Ive shipped compacts before, so I know the general how-tos... But just wondering if a CC will have more trouble than its worth being shipped since I know the CRTs have a grill that can shift.
