Sega Dreamcast

Yeh, Dreamcast with 1 controller, 1 visual memory card (weird things, those), 1 rumble pack and 5 games. Guy I know had it and didn't use it so I asked him how much he'd sell it for. He said 'oh you can have it'. All seems to work fine, apart from occasionally the RF signal to the TV will crackle and the picture will distort a bit. It stopped once it warmed up.

I have no real need or want to play Sonic Adventures or Sega Rally but I thought as it was Sega's last console (and I always was a Sega man) that I'd grab it.

Anyone know any cool junk you can do with one?

well, there were emulators that allowed you to play PS-One games on it. I think it was called "Bleem" or something, but it actually made the PS-One games look better on the Dreamcast than the actually PlayStation One. My brother had Bleem for Grand Tourismo-x and the shading was better than the PSOne. Try getting a hold of the bleem emulators. They were going to release a whole series, but were put to a halt when Sony sued them and shut them down. You need to get the bleem disc for the actual game you are going to play though... All it does is crack the DRM and load a simple Code-Translator into the memory. But it really does rock!

This is one of my more knowledgeable areas. some of the older ones allow playback of cd-r games that are kind of a pair to burn (they are not cds but gcd but I won't get into the specifics) But on mine I have a sega geneses emulator, snes as well as a nes (I own all the systems and games legally). some emulators run nicer then others, the system also allows internet browsing though dial up (or Ethernet with a Ethernet module but they are alot $$ on ebay). Some of the games made on it are just windows ce programs since the console was designed to use windows ce apps.

Dreamcast is a wonderful console for tinkerers... you'll love it! My roomate has one and reads all the news pages and forums; there's a very active user community online.

There are plenty of emulaters for it, I used to play Atari 2600 games using it.

Get Soul Caliber for it, fun game. Most of the Dreamcasts didn't need to be modded to play burnt CDR games, so find the local Dreamcast binary newsgroup and download some games to burn and play.

If you can find one cheap, get the VGA adapter for it, very nice.

Also, if you can get the fishing controller cheap, grab it. Apparently you can play Virtua Tennis and some other games using the fishing controller in a very Wii-like fashion... several years too early.
