SE no video

The second of my SEs seems to boot just fine, but there is a black screen. Nada.

I freshened up the four solder joints usually to blame. One of the solder joints, the top one, was indeed cracked, and there was evidence of arcing. Assuming the resoldering worked (should have), is there something else obvious that could have been knocked out by this arcing?

I see no bulging capacitors or other blown components, but clearly, the caps are ancient and most anything could have failed at this stage of the game.

I assume you ruled out the logic board as the source of the problem already.

Are you sure the flyback isn't cooked?

No, have not done either, but these are useful suggestions. I can swap components between two machines, as I have one that works. I just need to give them some time to discharge, as I am frankly a little scared of CRTs.

I am also not experienced at these repairs, so the advice is appreciated. My assumption is that beginning at the beginning means resoldering the cracked solder point at P1. Next would be following that failure through to the end. I will probably resolder again and do some continuity testing before I do anything much else, truth be told. But this also explains the question: does a known failure at P1 characteristically take out any other components? Or is the scorch mark at the top pin of P1 significant?

I only have a week or so before I go away for a few months, so this thread might need to be resurrected on return if I don't get there this time around!

This is probably the first thing you checked, but,

Is the brightness knob on the front of the case turned up?

Yes, but this leads to the question whether the knob itself can be the problem. Hmmm.

Is the brightness knob on the lower left front, all the way down?

I know this sounds simple, and obvious, and insulting, but I don't mean it that way.
