 No, not an industrial designer, per se . . . though I've done a lot of dabbling in that realm . . . it's even worse . . . I was a Sign & Display Maker with a Crane Truck! It a full set of Whitney cold iron working tools and a welder/generator on it for Sign Rigging and Playtime! I had a full metal shop, plastics fabrication setup, woodworking shop, electrical playpen, paint shop, a stealth spray booth (in NYC) and a Computer Room. [}:)] ]'>

I apprenticed back in the days of hand lettering with brushes, doing gold leaf on windows and doors and fabricating round faced and prismatic wood letters, carved and sandblasted wood signs etc. for surface gilding. If I told you that I could make just about anything, out of just about anything and then hang it just about anywhere, there'd be no braggin' involved, I've got the portfolio to prove it. [;)] ]'>

Fugly . . . fuggedaboudit . . . back in the '80s, fugly ROCKED! :approve:

I just LOVE Frogdesign's work, Jonathan Ive wouldn't be worthy of carrying Hartmut Esslinger's coat!

Most certainly! I ment fugly in the positive sense. :quadra:

By the way, I have a strange feeling that I've seen these protos before.. Was it in some sci-fi movie? Spielberg?Alien? 2010:the year we made contact (sequel to Kubrick's 2001)? 007 Moonraker? Any idea?

Very eeeenteresting! But not schtupid! :o)

Dunno, I'd probably go to Frog's site and look for movie credits . . .

. . . but I'm way behind schedule on a project for another member. :I

Methinks it's time to harvest all the OT DesignStudyMac/ProtoMac/ProtoHoaxMacHack & my WierdMac/HoaxMac pics collection to a new thread.

BTW: I've PM'd a bit of OnTopic info/suggestions for his project to Herr Bunsen, I can't wait to get his response. [:D] ]'>

If I had to hazard a guess you might be remembering the brief appearance of an Apple IIc in 2010, equipped with the (then-prototype?) LCD display.

Apparently an Apple IIgs ran a 3D Linux OS to hack a Gibson in the movie Hackers.

I can't help but like that movie. It's so bad.

Have you sourced or identified an LCD or are you still trying to wedge the board in beside your 9" VGA GrayScale?
Well, there is likely to be more than one version of this hack as time goes on. Having just been offered a Centris 610 PDS-Nubus adapter by a kind member here, the first attempt is likely to be that board with a CRT, as that involves parts I already have to hand.

I am compiling a list of small LCDs (8" to 10.4"; 4:3; 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768); there is a 10" XGA LCD TV with AV and VGA inputs (and analog TV tuner) on ebay for around $120 shipped (8" 800x600 version for around $85), or equivalent bare panels (mostly ToughBook service parts) for around $25 and up. I have yet to confirm if any of the nyjtouch controllers will drive them successfully. I'll publish the list of LCD parts numbers to the wiki when it's reasonably complete.
