SE/30

I have been wanting one of those for years, but prices were out of reach.

Got one this afternoon, known not working, advised as having a faulty analog board...but was free.

Dismantled this evening, the battery from the logic board had been removed, and caps should be replaced...unfortunately the ROM has been removed as well :-/

Ram is present, both the HD and Floppy are there and the case is not bad (slightly yellow but not much)

I have removed and tested the PSU, and voltages are not the ones required, but maybe a charge is required to get it working ??

Analog board seems fine, so i will probably had some work to get this one going.

Nice one!

But if I remember correctly, the PSU will give the appropriate voltages without being loaded. So you should get +5V,+12V and -12V even without the logic board being connected.

Anything else would indicate a problem I think :(

Thanks to all for support.

I have tested the PSU again, the 5 volt is ok (5.68) the 12 v is weak (11.68) and -12 v is really bad (-8.69 if i remember clearly)so if you are right genie-mac i have got a problem here.

On the down side, i just discovered yesterday that something else was missing from the Logic board :

(the board was washed yesterday BTW)

The Video ROM is missing as well !! so will probably be looking locally for both items(a relative has a spare SE/30...so hopefully will be able to get it)

5V and 12V seem to be within acceptable ranges (even though 5V seems a bit high), and to be honest I wouldn't worry too much about the low -12V rail, my LC PSU has a very low -5V rail as well but works fine otherwise.

I'd just try starting it up once you get the ROM's sorted out :)

I suppose you could always try the PSU in your SE (if you're signature is still up to date ;) ).

Small update, just bought another SE/30 today.

Was just a few miles from home, wasn't too expensive either (30 €)

According to the seller, the screen is showing checker flag patterns.

I removed the casing before payment, to be sure that both Roms were present this time... they were, as well as an Asante MacCon ethernet card and a set of 8 ram sticks (1 Mb each) :)

So i think in the end i didn't paid too much, more to come ... ::)

I'm still waiting to score an SE/30. There's been some cheap ones on ebay, but all with issues (mainly they needed recapping). I've had to pass on all of them, even the ones that had things like aftermarket network or video cards clearly visible from the back. I've had better luck sourcing cheap 128k and 512k machines than SE/30's.

Small update, after washing the board, all capacitors were removed and replaced.

And new tants were welded back in

Not perfect, some are not totally flat, but i will live with that.

I put everything back together and flip the switch on :

The HDD is working (SW 7.5) and all seems to be good Logic Board side, but i have got screen ghosting artifacts.

Anybody knows what this problem is related to ?

Anyway, this is great 8-)

Nice job on the recapping. I had ghosting like that once and it was a bad (in my case non-existent :) ) ground connection on the CRT.

Maybe check the CRT grounding strap on the video board that goes to the CRT frame.
