SE/30 w/Signatures (a request)

Original Discussion

Concorde1993: I think they stopped the signatures with the launch of the SE. My SE SuperDrive doesn't have any signatures molded on the case (neither does my SE/30).
PowerPup: Interesting, I have a SE/30 that has the signatures. In fact, part of the signatures are missing because of the expansion slot hole. (Not sure if the cover had the missing part, as it came without it.)

Concorde1993: Where was your SE/30 manufactured? Mine was manufactured in Ireland in 1991, so maybe its a regional thing.

PowerPup: Serial number: F95136WK02

  • Your unknown Mac was the 3702th Mac manufactured during the 51th week of 1989 in Fremont, California, USA.

So yeah, manufactured the year the SE/30 was introduced, and in California too.

Concorde1993: Try uploading a couple of pics of your SE/30's case. This is very interesting.
I've though it'd be best to continue the discussion here since it wasn't related to the item for sale in the other topic anymore.

Anyway, here's the pictures you requested Concorde1993. ;)

The sticker on top of the case says: (Which I didn't get a shot of.)

Washington State 670

Seattle Comm. College

That's weird to see Jobs' signature included with the designer's signatures, considering that he had nothing to do with the development of the Compact series past the 512K, so it's puzzling to see it there (unless it was for some sentimental value; he was the cofounder of the company, after all).

Naturally, I'll have to open up my SE/30, and do a photo comparison.

The signature molding is the same for ALL compact Macs (at least, that's what I've been told, I haven't done any direct comparisons.) You can actually see in later compact Macs that some of the structural elements cover up some of the signatures, because those structural elements were added later.

My SE is one of the originals (dual floppy, modded with a hard drive) and it has the signatures. I'm not sure of the date and place of manufacture. I will have to look into that.

Pretty sure my Classic II has signatures, and that was the last of the compacts(or at least the true compacts)

My SE/30 doesn't -- currently open, waiting for a replacement 53C80 :-(

I believe it was made in 1989 (Serial: CK04005GKH1)

Zulko, your SE/30 looks to be a late 1990 model.

I've found pre-FDHD SEs are your best bet for finding them. I'm guessing they phased it out sometime in mid-1989 based on SE form factor machines. No Classics have signatures, but a Plus from 1990 should.

As promised, here are some pics of the interior of my SE/30's case. Notice that there are no signatures molded in the case. Also observe that the manufacturer of the case is not Rawal, but rather a Japanese-based company (Tohoku Munekata, Co).

Additional pics of my SE/30 can be seen in my Conquests thread (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16669).
