Bolle 68020 Nov 28, 2018 #3 It's possible that the timing for sound gets thrown off on anything that's not 68000-based. Should only happen on some really old games though. I have never seen an ASC die in an SE/30 yet but I had two with crackling sound where the crystal right next to the sound chip was on its way out. But if that would be the issue you should have crackling no matter what software the sound is coming from.

Bolle 68020 Nov 28, 2018 #5 Got any more examples of games that produce crackling? Also what system software are you running? Can try out a few games later on to see how they behave on a SE/30.
