I've finally completed my SE/30 restoration project! Thanks to everyone on the board who helped in some way or another :)

Here's a photoset on Flickr with some random shots of the process... I think the final shots and the retrobright comparisons are particularly interesting.

So... what next?

SWEET!

Is that using the same logic board that I recapped for you? Just curious, though.

73s de Phreakout. :rambo:

@Scott Thanks! I honestly can't believe I was able to get such great success with the retrobright. It's a hard process to screw up and definitely doesn't require the harshest of chemicals some might lead you to believe. Maybe I'll create some documentation...

Specs: SE/30 circa Jan-Feb 1989, 68 MB RAM, 250 MB HDD, superdrive, MacCon PDS Ethernet card, AppleCD SCSI CD-ROM drive, programmers switch, and original keyboard/mouse. Running System 7.5.5 with MODE32.

As far as software, I've got a lot of desktop publishing software from the previous owner (MS Word, Powerpoint, and Excel, Aldus PageMaker, etc) and some stuff I put on myself (grackle twitter client, fetch, iCab, AOL Instant Messenger...)

@Phreakout yes! You did an awesome job recapping the board. It looks and functions brilliantly. No more screen artifacts, the sound works perfectly, and everything is working better than new.

congratulation! :) mission success

I probably need your word of advice on my SE/30 because I want to use my SE/30 for word processing only(or possible DTP). but the problem is to print out. so I need to transfer this file to PC and print that file from the PC. Let me worry about how to transfer this file to PC.

My real question is.. what kind of PC software/word processor can support any word processors on SE/30 ..?

What is the easiest way to do this ? I love SE/30 cute CRT screen and keyboard.. this is only reason I wanna do my word processing on SE/30 ;)

I know.. i should start my own tread huh.. :p

My exact recipe was as follows:

I had no exact recipe. It was typically a 1 part H2O2 to 5 parts H2O mixture with a teaspoon or so of Oxiclean per bottle of H2O2. I would occassionally sprinkle some more Oxiclean into the mixture which would cause a really neat chain reaction clouding the water for a minute or two.

For the back case I used about 10 gallons of water and 5 bottles of over-the-counter H2O2. Left it under 5 UV lamps for about 2-3 days.

My successes seem to indicate that retrobright isn't an exact science by any means. I was (likely) a total idiot about it but I was able to achieve optimal results. As I know JDW has said, it takes time, not lethal amounts of chemical to make this process work.

A nice sunny day is supposed to make the reaction work much faster then a UV bulb (put the tub outside with a cover).

@techknight I bought them on Amazon. If you want them (I have 5 now) I'll send them to you for less than I paid. PM me.

@K I'm in an apartment with a full-shade porch and no roof access. UV lamps were my only realistic option.

Is the "Apple Keyboard" M0116 keyboard the proper keyboard for an SE/30 or is it the "Keyboard II" M0487?

Drool,

I always wanted an SE, after using a Plus at college, for the extra power and the look of that grooved front.

Pretty sure my Classic runs Word 4, an early version of Quark Express!
