SE/30 – 7.5.3 , 7.5.5 won't boot

I think there's a problem because something went wrong once while upgrading. Or something isn't compatible. That is odd, because theoretically you can upgrade a Plus from 3.2 to 7.5.5...

If all else fails, you should try the 7.5 install. Get a fresh partition and install.

I never tried ResEdit. I think I'd mess things up! Good luck  :)

I literally followed the instructions you sent from the EarthLink site.

I had my 7.1 system file backed up so I moved it back to the boot partition and went from there...

They mentioned booting from 7.0.1 Disk Tools to perform the modifications with ResEdit, but I was still successful booting from the ROM-inator and using ResEdit from a separate partition!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the reason I was having issues was because the coding of the system files basically anticipated an SE/30 stock ROM and since the ROM-inator is technically a IIsi ROM the ResEdit changes keep the machine happy during the boot process?

If so, what a great learning experience :D

Congrats! Glad to hear it is finally working as it should.  :)

Yeah the standard install technique won't work if you use a IIsi/IIfx ROM on an SE/30. I totally forgot you were using on of those...

And it depends on what is on your ROM-inator simm as well. You can program a hacked IIsi ROM into it that enables use of the Apple HD20 (first Apple hard drive) and therefore use the Floppy EMU in HD20 mode.
