SCSI2SD Setup Troubles

I recently purchased a SCSI2SD and today I installed it in my Color Classic. I booted the CC off an external HD with a CC-compatible installation of 7.1 and the patched version of HD SC Setup 7.3.5. I got the SD card initialized and partitioned but that's when things started to go wrong.

First, HD SC Setup won't let me use the whole SD card. Is 4GB just a hard size limit for 7.1?

Second, despite having a 4GB partition, I can't copy over the system folder from the external HD to the SD card. It says that somehow 42MB of additional space is required. What's going on? How could I possibly not have enough space?

Oh, that's it? It lets me make 4GB partitions but they don't actually work? That's...weird.

It's not all that weird and/or surprising that HD SC Setup 7.5.3 makes 4GB partitions. HD SC Setup 7.3.5 came out after SCSI Manager 4.3 and System 7.5. In that configuration 4GB partitions will work; 7.1 doesn't work with 4GB partitions.

If you want to use the entire space of the card, make multiple 2GiB partitions.

That worked! I get a message telling me my disk isn't recognized but the CC still boots just fine.

Now to find the CCII system enabler and reinstall System Update 3.0...

I'm glad its all working out.

I believe the "unknown drive" problem is due to it not liking a partition on the disk. (But as you mentioned it still works fine with that) The 4GB 7,200RPM disk in my SE/30 currently has that problem, it's a little bit annoying to have to always click cancel or whatever, but it doesn't affect usability.

Is there a list out there that says which enabler is for which system? 

I know Enabler 403 is the Color Classic and 401 is the LC 520/550, but I have no idea which one is for the CCII (and thus which one will make my machine show up properly in About This Macintosh).

Hmm. Guess I need to reinstall System Update 3.0 or something, right now the CC is just shown as "Macintosh".

After 7.5 it will always say power macintosh or macintosh. There was an init that fixes it.  I listed the name of it on another thread and its version.  Off the top of my head I forget what its called.

Nope, even after reinstalling the system update it still just says Macintosh instead of Color Classic II/Performa 275. Oh well.

Humm.  I am running a Color Classic with a CC II logic board with 7.6.1.  I just looked.  MIne dose not says "Color Classic".  I did do a "universial install" as I plan on rolling in a LC 575 logic board at some point.  But when I first installed 7.6, I could have chosen "for this mac only".  Maybe if I did that it would have said "Color Classic".....

No Color Classic versions of 7.what ever.  But you can find different versions of 7 OS.

System 7.6 will never show the computer name in the About this Macintosh box unless you install a 3rd party extension.

Where can I find this extension?  Do I google "apple Color Classic Extension"?  Thhis is a small software patch, right?

Well, it's not from Apple, which is why I said third party.

I went to the above link and down loaded Mac Identifer 1.1.1.  I put it in my extension folder and rebooted.  On boot, it I got the bomb and it said to re boot with out extensions and remove it.  So I did and the computer boots fine now.

I am running a CC II logic board in my CC wtih OS 7.6.1.  Maybe I need a newer version of Mac ID 1.1.1?  Or did I do something wrong?

I am running 7.6.1 on my color classic with a 550 board and it shows color classic II with the identifier, so I am not sure what the problem is.  Maybe you have an extention it doesnt work well with.  Thats why they made a 3rd party program called conflict catcher.

Also Themk....  At some point I am going to roll in a LC 576 logic board. The CC II board is in my CC now. So I removed 7.6 that I installed  for "this mac only" and did a fresh install of 7.6 for " any mac".  After that, I did the upgrade to 7.6.1.  Maybe that screwed me over??  Not sure....

There could be many reasons why Mac Identifier isn't working due to a conflict on your system. I'm sorry, but I can't really help you there as I don't know all of your control panels and extensions. Take Macdrone's advice, and try conflict catcher.
