Scored an XBox!!!

Hey guys! Long time, no log on. I scored myself an XBox last week on freecycle. I'm so excited about it because it's my first "good" console. I want to get online with XLink Kai. Halo 2 anyone? I'll gladly host. Got better internet, running at 3 mbps. Dunno about the upload though. Let me know! It feels good to be back!

Whohoo, that's a great score, is it modded? Chuck in a cheap HD, fire her it up with Xbox media centre and you won't look back - it's simply the best media software for < SD definition.

Softmodding it is very easy, all you need is a xbox to usb adapter(probably like, 5 bucks on ebay), and a copy of mechassault(like, 2 bucks at gamestop)

If interested, just do a google search for "softmodding xbox" or something and you'll find some guides.

If you have 3Mb AT&T then you have 160KB/s up. I have the same thing. I think you can host about 7 other people in your game not counting yourself.

I have actually scored an original Xbox a few weeks ago. Modded it as soon as I got it using the "Hotswap" method. I also bought a 120 GB IDE drive for it off the classifieds and am REALLY loving it. The ability to save games to the hard drive and backup the family photos to it is great. XBMC is wonderful, though I really wish I could get the Youtube plugin working.

I wrote a little guide to the guides on doing the hotswap method here:

You can do this method without buying anything, assuming you own a Torx screwdriver.

I actually have Verizon. I assume it works the same though.

I was actually starting to opt against it because I didn't want to buy anything for the hack and because I read that one can end up with a brick. Uh Uh

But you really got me thinking about this method. I might just go for it but I'll have to buy hat HD first. THANKS!

They say that because there IS a chance that if you are wearing wool socks on high pile carpet while stroking a kitty, there may be some static buildup and if you for some reason touch the motherboard while doing it, it could take a shock like a normal computer.

I have known a guy who did it while slightly intoxicated, Still fine. I have done it on carpet while resting it on my bed, still fine.

If you want to upgrade the hard drive, look here.

You still have to do the softmod in the first place to get the EEPROM dump, though after that you can install a new hard drive.

Nice!

In the past, I got a working N64 and a working SNES with controllers and 20 games for free and a broken NES for $2.50, but those finds don't beat your free xBox!
