SATA SSDs

Hi all,

I found few results in the search above for these keywords, but I'm sure that much has been written about it.

Which modern SATA SSDs support SATA-1? Most of the specs of the SSDs that I recently looked at mention SATA-2 support.

Would it be safe to assume SATA-1 support?

Are any you using SATA SSDs under Mac OS 9 (and lower), and if so, what are the SATA drives?

What you said! Adapter capabilities to ATA/IDE buses in macs appear to be a key element from what I've read in the various threads.

Any new info relating to the use of mSATA in the 1400 would be greatly appreciated. There are a couple of threads outlining its unique(?)problems.

I've used Samsung SSDs under OS9 without problems. I believe it was 120gb 840 evo with a Sonnet SATA card. Worked in a 8600 and a MDD.

I'd tried a 120gb Intel and while it initially worked, I soon had directory problems. Moved the drive to a MacBook where it worked fine

All SATA versions are forwards and backwards compatible. SATA3 drive on SATA1 controller, SATA1 drive on SATA3 controller, whatever you want.

Are you sure? I was told that SSDs that are too new won't work in a Power Mac G5.

Not sure how that could be. Trim won't be supported but that shouldn't be much of an issue.

I believe that Anthon is correct *as a general rule*, but it is anyway good to hear of models that have been shown to work.

Absolutely! Has anyone got a suggestion for the best mSata to 2.5" ATA/IDE (PCMCIA as well) adapter for the 1400? According to a couple of old threads it seems to be the problem child of the PowerBook line when it comes to SATA adaptation. Maybe a more current chipset will have solved that, and by extension all(?) adaptation bugaboos for PBs and desktops?

I'm using an OWC 60GB SATA SSD in my QS2002 as the OWC drives onboard SandForce processor handles TRIM support.

When I did have a SATA/PATA adapter on it 9.2.2 recognised the drive, but the SATA controller card I've got it directly connected to now is only OSX friendly.
