You know, your "request" did sound more like a demand than a request. And porter's statement was at least sardonically clever.
If you want something, you need to find a more polite way to ask for it, and not take offence when someone rebukes you for any (perceived) attitude. When I read your message, I didn't see any attitude; porter did. When I read porter's message, all of a sudden, yours did have a ring of demanding-ness to it. A simple "Sorry, I didn't mean for it to come across that way." would have sufficed.
