Revived IIci

This really isn't new hardware, but it feels like it.

After sitting idly for the better part of four years, I replaced the power supply in my IIci last night. The replacement is another Astec, which I'm not completely happy about (would prefer a GE that doesn't have the known trickle issue), but at least it works again. I may see if I can work on the old one using some of the directions I've seen floating around online to fix the trickle issue. For now I'm using the power strip technique.

I had been meaning to fix this machine for over a year now, but never got around to it. I found a few files from 2005-2006 when I used the computer. It's been in the garage since I got rid of the desk it sat on pre-Mac counter (which only holds two Macs now).

For those interested in the specs: 8MB RAM, 80MB hard drive, cache card, Apple ADB Keyboard (original short model), ADB Mouse I. I have it hooked up to a 13" Apple Hi-Res RGB (a Trinitron model). There's a video card inside, but I don't remember which model it is offhand--I know it's an Apple branded card. I'm using "vampire video" for now though. I hooked it up to the same LaserWriter that my PB180c and Classic use.

I also got a brand new shrinkwrapped copy of Word 5.1 for it but didn't get around to installing it last night. The big question--shall I send in the registration card? (I didn't with the two other brand new copies of 5.1 I have purchased within the last year).

Hah, if you already have another couple of complete sets of Word 5.1 (with rego card) i'd fill it out and send it in just for a laugh. I wonder if you'd get a response? :D

Verify the address before you send the card. In Apple's case, the registration cards are addressed to mail stops which haven't existed in over a decade.

I do have three complete Word 5.1 sets, all with registration cards. I also have a Win2K Pro with a registration card. I'll verify the address and see what happens!
