Repairing my Mac Plus, looking for a little advice

Hey guys

Gonna be repairing my Mac Plus this weekend, just needs some solder connections reflowing (typical no video, but tapping on the side will get it running)

Been doing a bit of reading and seems it is also worth recapping the analog board (but that will have to wait, will need to order those in)

Also there seems to be some debate on weather it's worth recapping the logicboard (but i think i will, since after seeing some xbox's with leaky caps, and those are only 7 years old!)

What i was wondering is if there is anything else i should be checking (or just replacing regardless) while i'm in there? want to keep this guy running ;)

also anyone know of a good place to pickup a 800k floppy drive? the original one just continuously clicks when power is applied (so I have removed it for the time being)

sorry if i am asking stupid questions... I have little experience with the insides of classic macs (despite having a raver large software collection) but i am confident with soldering (been doing it half my life, although that is only 8 years...) so i am confident i can replace anything that needs to be.

anyway, thanks in advance

ahh, i'll keep a eye out for a 1.44mb drive then, might even pinch the one in my powermac 8600 for the time being

I don't know if the FDHD will work at all, but you'll have a better chance of getting an auto-inject (1992-93 or older) 1.44 FDD to work than a manual-inject (like your 8600's) to work. There are problems using manual 1.44s in machines that are expecting auto 1.44s, so I would assume it's even worse if the machine is expecting auto 800s.

Absolutely try it anyway and report back.

Just don't be convinced all FDHDs won't work if the manual inject doesn't.

ok, will give it a shot at the weekend

on annother note, dose anyone have a list of the 6 caps on the plus's logic board? need to order replacements but my long torx screwdriver is hiding someware so i can't pull the board out atm...

totally forgot about the wiki, had a peek there, unfortunately as it isn't notorious for haveing cap failers (at least not on the lb) there isn't a list for it

might ask him, otherwise i will just have to find that damn screwdriver (kept finding it while working on newer things, now can't find it for the life of me)
