QuickTime decal?

So I'm mostly done with the case on my new Color Classic II - gave it a retrobrite treatment which I'll describe in the main thread. Only problem is that the little QuickTime decal was scuffed up pretty badly. I took it off before I scrubbed the case and brited it. The case is now a perfect original gray, with the exception where the sticker was - you an actually see where a little of the dye bled in to the plastic and theres a ghost of a tiny "Q" staring back at me. Tried cleaning it with some alcohol, goo-gone, etc, and I think it's just there permanently.

SO... Anyone know a source for a new QuickTime decal? :)

I personally hate that QT decal. It reminds me of PC marketing ... I have friends that never remove all those stupid decals plastered all over their laptops. However, it is a part of Apple history, so I am reluctant to remove them from any of my CCs. The irony is that QT doesn't work particularly well on a CC due to Apple's unnecessary crippling of the bus speed. It probably works better on a CC II which is essentially an LC 550 that did run QT pretty well.

I would think a replacement would be hard to come by, unless salvaged directly from a broken CC, or obtained from someone like me, who might remove one from one of my CCs.

I'm with you completely, I guess I'm thinking th sticker would look better than the faded stain from where it used to be... I used to work IT at a hospital and would always spend the first few minutes with a new XP laptop taking off the stickers. I've already bought the machine, why try to keep selling me on it?

For years my rule regarding those stickers was every time I got a new Powerbook at work I'd immediately have to go through the new arrival PC laptops and steal an "Intel Inside!" (or their later equivalents) sticker to apply to it, simply to tweak the serious Apple Faithful-types. (And it did indeed work.) Now that Apple's gone to Intel it's particularly amusing to me to see the Pentium III/M stickers still adorning my last couple PowerPC relics.

Even I was never cruel enough to transfer the companion "Designed for Windows (blawblaw)!" sticker, though.

My Mac Pro has an actual Slot 1 Pentium III CPU velcroed (adhesive-backed) to the side of it for similar reasons. (Gotta rub that sorta thing in hard when you have the chance, you know. And hey, it's like racing stripes! The fifth core makes it moar faster.)

I used to do this in high school. Every time a new Dell computer came in, I would (like so many others) peel off the Intel, and "Designed For Windows" stickers, and place them on a sheet of paper as a keepsake. Some I decided to place on my MBP (I have three Intel Duo Core stickers on the bottom housing, even though this computer came equipped with the i5). I guess it makes the MBP's case appear less monotonous.

Regardless of all this, you could probably recreate the logo yourself by printing onto some adhesive matte card. Alternately, gently using a "magic eraser" may remove the set-in dye on the casing.

I'll give the magic eraser a try, I've just always heard they can really damage the plastics if used too much so I'm a little wary. If that fails I might just put a goofy little sticker there.

I left the "Ready for PowerPC upgrade" Sticker on my PB520c. It's fun in that historical sort of way.

Slowly but surely is the way to use a magic eraser - a little bit of water and detergent also helps, as it is basically a light abrasive. Yes, if you use it too firmly, it will kind of make a polished/smear mark on the plastic. Toothpaste may also work well here (and gives you that minty freshness we all know and love) :)

I love that decal, mcdermd! The QT decal on my CC is pristine. Actually, I was very fortunate with the unit; the whole thing is immaculate.

I do like slapping Sonnet decals on my upgraded systems, although I couldn't bring myself to do it on the MDD.

So after a second round of retrobrite and some thorough cleaning, I think I was a bit off on what happened - the black part of the sticker didn't bleed through, it actiqlly protected the plastic underneath so well that it's the original, perfect, pristine color, and even after all sorts of treatment I guess I'll never get the rest of the case to quite match it. It's a little better after the second round of treatment at least...
