Question about Powerbook 100 series display panels

Hello everyone, I have had a Powerbook 160 for a while now. My question is since the display isn't good, can I replace a PowerBook 160 screen with a screen from a PowerBook 140? Thanks!

There is a service source for each powerbook available online that contains the following...

Depending on the revisions, it looks like their is some parts overlap, but the monitor part numbers are different.  Since the PB140 is monochrome and the monitor for the PB160 is 4 bit grayscale, if the transplant does work, you would lose grayscale on the monitor.

Chances are the capacitors in the display have gone. Better to replace those, rather than swap the display and have to recap it in the future anyway.

I have both machines too, and going by memory I think that they are different panels, one should be grayscale while the other back and white.

Yep, 4bit (grayscale) vs 1bit (B&W) video on the PB100, not saying it can't work, but the cable differential between models is bound to be problematic.

The display ribbon cable also broke, so I'm assuming I can at least use the PowerBook 140 display cable in the 160. Those appear to be the same part number.

Sounds like a safe assumption. You found those cable specs in the ServiceSource for each model?

I got sidetracked, misinterpreting title as PowerBook 100 (series) thinking "PB100" when the issue of B&W came up, my bad. :I
