Quadra PPC Upgrade Card

I recently found this card for my Quadra 950 (code 820-0547-A) but when I have tested it... not work!  :(

I have tested the card with Quadra 950 and Quadra 650... without success. If I use 68k no problem, if I select PPC on control panel, on reboot I have the PPC chime and the death chime (and no video output). The cpu is very hot, the voltages on the board is ok (5v and 3,6v). I not able to find the issue. Any suggestion? No way to fix it? This board is very hard to find and I want it!

Did your card come with a heatsink? It should have a large heatsink covering the CPU and the majority of the card as shown. I expect it won't run properly without it. I'm afraid I don't know the missing capacitor's value. Maybe someone who owns this card can check.

Yes, I have removed the heatsink only for take the pictures  ;)

The capacitor is the same of some others on the board, but smd capacitors not have the spec write on them... The best is have a Apple schematics, but is impossible to find.

However I think the capacitor is not essential

Those cards run super hot even with fresh thermal paste. My Q700's card will get super hot. I also noticed if I used the my NuBUS video card instead of onboard video the card would not be recognized. Flaky cards.

I suspect the problem is the cpu soldering points... If I touch the heatsink my mac stop to play a chime!

But with my solder is very hard work...

I am sorry for a very late reply but I was researching this card, found this post and thought I should share some ideas along the way.

I was researching this card myself as I have a 950 with it inside. (The 950 has been sitting waiting for a restore so no I haven't been using it)

I just took the heat sync off the  and added new Arctic Ice MX4 thermal compound but first cleaned off the surface on the CPU with Arcticlean Thermal Material Remover and followed up with Thermal Surface Purifier then yes, I applied the MX4 thermal past.

As per manual: I know that you hear a crash sound with the card. You need to visual inspect the card first to find anything suspicious. It might be too late but you can report back and photograph anything suspicious.
