Quadra 840AV Video adjustment

Trying to get said machine on line, and the one problem is that the video image on the monitor is offset to the right by about an inch and a half. I know it's not the monitor, because the monitor works fine with the other Macintoshes I've got. Anybody know what to adjust somewhere, hopefully?

Video cable is plugged into the connector on the motherboard...

It's something that happens IIRC, so don't panic just yet I think there is a simple solution...

Can't remember the solution off the top of my head...

Maybe a refresh rate needs changed?

It would depend on the system software in particular, and possibly the monitor also. There is occasionally a need for considerable fiddling over this, for some reason, so if you don't succeed, report back.

If you have the Monitors and Sounds control panel included in the AppleVision 1.5.3 and Apple Displays 1.5.5 software, or versions of the system from (as I recall off the top of my head) 7.5.5 or so, then you should be able to adjust the screen geometry through the control panel. I do not know if this works with, say, an LCD running from the machine through an adapter, but it certainly works with the Apple gear of the time.

I do not think it was possible to do this in the version of 7.1 Pro that shipped with the 840av, but the relevant software upgrade can be downloaded from Apple's servers. Pay attention to the txt files associated with the two packages.

So I go and switch my 840av on... & the screen is about an inch off to one side!

You know, I have a pc lcd monitor & the monitor adapter has dip switches and this has solved the problem for me in the past...

I don't have a solution at this moment in time... my screen just goe's back to normal after a short while I think...

Use to have this problem on CRT monitors when using certain adapters, or having the refresh rate set to a rate the monitor could not deal with. Problem was fixed by simply changing the refresh rate to stand VGA (60hz), or usually 72, or 75hz at 640x480.
