Quadra 700 & SCSI2SD freezes

It does seem to get grumpy sometimes - it often decides it can't see my scanner, then other days it sees it no problem!

 
Mine sees my external CD drive fine, then when I start to poke around in the disc it freezes. Yesterday it froze when I exited Illustrator.
