With pics!

Continuing from this thread

Apple IIe (Enhanced) Platinum, with 128KB RAM, dual 5.25" floppy disk drives, 80-Column card, Printer card (parallel), RAM disk (64KB?), etc...

Has extended keyboard (KeyPad), I bootstrapped it from the audio cassette ports from my PC. Currently archiving the software I got with it (150+ disks)

ADT Pro transfering data from the Apple Works floppy. This program/loader is a godsend!

Portrait shot of it. It's in very good condition, little to no yellowing. Awesome score!

Moving on:

PowerBook 145B. Not sure of the specs, I assume the original 80MB SCSI HDD (spins up), 1.44MB floppy, not sure about expanded RAM. it supposedly maxes at 8MB. Will have to see what I can do with it. Probably not much. I got the original OS someplace online, will have to load it. It might only have 2MB RAM. making it difficult to do much.

screen works/backlight, but since the power adapter it dead, I ordered a new one. I got it to turn on with 5 C-sized batteries in series, but it drops power too quick when the hard drive spins up. Can't wait!

laptop closed. it came from a retired school teacher here at West Side highschool (same with the Apple IIe), he said this was his first laptop he ever owned.

Infamous PowerBook logo. Funny they used "power" in their laptops prior to their PowerPC series of machines. Forethought? Maybe coincidence?

Smile! this was in the trackball area when I opened it.

other than the power adapter, this was the only other issue. I will probably glue it and touch it up with some paint I will try to get matched with it. either that get glue that I can get a dye into.

The machine is in otherwise physically perfect shape. I know it works, it's just the power adapter that is broken. I got one coming from ebay.

That II is wonderful. The owner must had kept it away from sunlight for a long time to keep it so pristine.....

Actually it had nothing to do with that...in 1991 the PowerPC had barely even been thought of. As far as I'm aware it was a take-off of their then-current slogan - The power to be your best. Anyway, nice find...that IIe is in beautiful condition..now all you need is a matching Apple display :)

I have a matching Apple display, I am using that because it's the only color CRT TV in the house, and the ONLY small tv in the house

Ok. Did some sleuthing. The PB 145B while it has 4MB RAM, uses the hecka-expensive Pseudo-Static RAM. It's $40 one bay, but I have overspent my budget until I get my first paycheck. I am kind of looking to trade for a SCSI-> Ethernet adapter for the PB 145B, but I need to make sure it totally works. Unless someone has a spare 4MB RAM Module for this, which that will take precedence. I am waiting on the power adapter.

Btw: Calling ChristTrekker, you wouldn't happen to have a PB 1xx series adapter I can try this?

I would love to check and see if this powers up.

I have the machine sitting on a 7.5V power adapter, except it's only 500ma, I want to see if it will charge the battery at all. Not sure if it will do any damage, but I would like to try and see if it will work. Unless someone tells me it's a bad idea.

I wouldn't - if I'm correct those machines need a minimum of 2 amps (the capacity of the PB100 power adapter) to boot...3 amps (the capacity of the M5652) is better.

I jury-rigged an old RC 8.4V 5000Mah battery from my car and got it running!

Currently backing up stuff. It has 4MB RAM (Doubled with Connectix Ram Doubler), an 80MB HDD. The screen contrast slider has an issue. it's like the track is gummy aka it keeps changing the contrast. Anyone know something I can spray in it to clean the track? I imagine it's just a big sliding resister.

The HDD works perfectly, and the system has SuperClock on it, System 7.1 (would it be better to go with 7.0.1? that's the original install.

The floppy works great, and the backlight works perfectly. Bright for the age of the machine.

When I get the power adapter, I will see if I can refurbish the battery. It's Ni-MH so I will see what I can do.

Other than that, the machine works awesomely.

I can haz web presenze?

I got the machine to connect somewhat through localtalk and my LC II and got Wannabe 68k to load 68kmla, unfortunately, there's no way to log in.

I may have to look for some RAM. I found a 4MB module on ebay which would max this out, but it's like $35+9 shipping. not sure I want to spend that, but with RAM doubler, it would give me 16MB

I think the sweet spot for the system OS is gonna be 7.0.1 (original OS) as it uses the least RAM (under 1MB) and since I am limited to 4MB Max (and doubled with RAM Doubler) at the moment, I can't install OT. I need 5MB RAM to do that.

I will have to see what my options are for RAM. anyone got a spare 4MB Module? PSRAM? (100ns) for the PB 1xx series?

I willing to pay $25 shipped to 68132 (maybe more internationally)

Oh, and I got the power brick today. no more RC battery :p

Except when I stick in the battery that came with the machine, it refuses to turn on, and it will shot off immediately when it's put in while running.

Any ideas?

Ended up scoring a 6MB RAM module for it too. I wasn't expecting to get it, but the guy on ebay lowered his price when I put an offer in.
