Problems updating panther

Trying to upgrade my ibook running 10.3.2 panther to 10.3.9. I downloaded the combo update but it unexpectadly quits partway through. And the 10.3.4 and 10.3.5 combo updates that I tried- the dmgs wont even mount. This is frustrating because i want to get this installed. Any ideas?

(a) download them again

( B) try and mount them on a different machine.

I have disks that have Panther plus the 10.3.9 update. It will only install the update after I have installed Panther if I first copy the update to the HD and then open it from there. Then it works fine.
