I've been wanting to pick up a new solder iron, so this gave me a good reason. I picked up a Hakko FX-888d at frys for $70, now to clean off my desk and take it for a spin.
Did you check the logic/power connection on both ends? Often there is enough for the board to pass the test but still a bad enough connection for no video. I always look over every single joint on the analog and the connector on the motherboard. Solder joint can even look okay but have a fine enough crack to cause issues.
In fact, I am doing the same thing you are right now on a 128k. For me I either missed a bad solder or I have another issue. Screen works for a while then nothing.
This process can be frustrating in hopes that its always something simple and it turns out to be more. But when it finally works, its so worth it!
edit: If you find its your flyback, I may have replacements. I have a pile of compact analog boards but they are all untested and many are missing caps. However, they all have a transformer.
Hot damn. I reflowed the logic board connector on the analog board and she is alive now.
Now the internal floppy drive is not working, need to pull it apart and grease it as the mechanism is all froze up. Though now that I have a Floppy EMU I don't have much need for the floppy, so I can put that off for a while.
Is it going to hurt anything to leave the install floppy disconnected?
No, it will be find with it disconnected. The drives themselves are very easy to work on. There is a recent write-up hear touching on reviving them. I just overhauled four of them. I have a brand new one in box, I am doing all I can to leave it in there!
