Help me decide

I thought it was quite difficult to repair and diagnose a MDD PSU, due to multiple point of failure (unless you're an electronics tech!).  If a nice dual CPU model with good GPU I'd keep it, otherwise look for a replacement PSU

Ditch the PSU, replace it with a stock ATX power supply and one of these adapters; http://atxg4.com

QUICK EDIT: You might have to contact the maker at his Etsy store, since it looks like he's out of stock for the pre-made MDD ones. But that guide should tell you how to rig up your own if you've got the courage.

What nglevin said. Just install an ATX PS.

I replaced the PS in my MDD G4 twice and was ready to scrap it when the stock PS failed for the third time.

However, I decided to try the ATX path and it worked like a charm!

I didn't use a mod cable I just rearranged the pins using the proper molex extraction tool. (Without which it's basically impossible to remove the pins.)

I did have to use an 24 pin extension cable to be able to mount the PS inside the top of the case.

Also, I haven't had any issues with "deep sleep" although I usually power it off when I'm not using it.

Ive spoken to the ebay seller who rebuild MDD PSUs, Ive done mine and it works now and replace the fans to quiet good quality ones.
