Powermac G4 Cube!

I've been wanting a Cube since they were released in 2000. It is a basic 450mhz/192MB/40GB/DVD and it came with a 17" Apple ADC LCD monitor.

Its a neat unit in decent overall physical and working condition.

I ended up trading my DP G5 for it that had 2 dead RAM slots out of 4. Seemed a little unfair but Cubes seem expensive and I have wanted one a long time and I have never been a G5 fan.

They must be more expensive up north. Cubes are all over US eBay for under $100. A nicer one can be $150, but it sounds like you got the display too which is at least $50 in value right there.

They are hard to find here and ebay Cubes cost an arm + leg to ship up north.

I think you did alright. I see G5s as dead end Macs. You can't run OS 9 on them, and you can't run anything newer than 10.5. Very limited use. With your Cube, you can run OS 9 and OS X. Not too shabby.

nice score! I wouldn't mind getting a Cube one day, but really I'll only grab one if I happen upon a good deal. Hasn't happened yet, so I don't have one yet. hahaha

The one thing missing is the USB headphone adapter. Can anyone suggest an alternative?

I would love to use some ball speakers since they match, but without the proper adapter its not an option at this point.

Also, looking for soundsticks and sub

Griffin iMic, cheap generic Chinese USB audio dongle.

Although they only work in X and not 9...

The iMic would be a pretty cheap alternative.

Even though they look similar to the iMac G4's speakers, the original Cube speakers were unique to the Cube and were permanently attached to the USB sound card in the external box. A common cube problem is a broken USB port. I've seen them broken on more than a few Cubes.

I found a solution to this issue. Locally I was able to get a set of original Harmon/Karon Sounsticks USB!

Cost me $70 but they are next to impossible to find!

Great sound too!

Now i have the whole set for display once we move.
