Powerbook or ibook G4, which one do you like better?

Powerbooks were always built better (and easier to upgrade), more reliable (noting GPU issues in most iBook models) and still feel modern to use.  iBooks have aged considerably, and many I've come across have this horrible smell eminating from the keyboard!  Must be the rubber membrane underneath degrading.

Yep, they get a puke smell after a while.

In almost all cases the final 2005-2006 models are the most reliable across the board. But it depends on the size you want and what you want to do with it, TBH. The final iBooks have more RAM than the 12" PowerBook (though correspondingly less VRAM). That being said most PowerBooks aren't too hard to get open. The same cannot be said for the iBooks.

I kind of like that smell they have, but my wife hates it, alas.

Yeah, given the case builds, I probably won't be repairing the books - just use 'em till they're gone...

I do like the size and overall form factor though.

I had to repair a g3 ibook and a g4 ibook recently. They have too many screws (I like working on Thinkpads) but you can get the job done. The Powerbooks are thinner but one drop and they are dented (ibooks get scratched too easily) plus they are also not too fun to take apart.

I do like the 15" Powerbook g4's and there isn't an equivalent iBook from what I remember.

I had never used anything besides the 12" iBook/12" PowerBook and I always preferred the iBook, despite the better specs on the PB.  I never noticed a horrible smell coming from any of mine; they did have a distinctive smell even when new, but I wouldn't say it was bad.  I definitely liked the iBook G3 design over the G4 one though (better keyboard feel IMO, better case color being translucent outside/silver inside instead of that awful opaque that turned brown everywhere).

I didn't think any of the iBooks (dual USB and newer) or PowerBooks (Titanium G4 and newer) were easy to take apart.  The iBooks are a nightmare with all those tiny screws and blasted clipped in case parts that always seemed to break even when being super gentle with a spudger.
