Powerbook Lombard Issues

Well, I am trying to get my Powerbook Lombard working, but I am not having any luck. Yesterday, it was working just fine, except the computer couldn't recognize the 4 GB HD that was inside. But today, the thing will not hardly do anything. I put a CD inside (Which was in the DVD Drive when I bought it). and it shut down just like that. Even though it still powers on and makes the start up sound, nothing shows on the screen (No Flashing ? Sign like it should have). I also can't eject the CD.

Any ideas?

With boot issues, the first thing to do is remove the PRAM battery.

Based on the HDD, there is a chance it was just fried. However, with both it and the optical drive not working, there is a chance that between the both of them some sort of data bus is shorting(or something like that). I'd try removing both and then see if you get a "? Floppy". If you do, plug one or the other back in and figure out which is bad.

My Wallstreet II also has a DVD drive, and it is broke and crashes it on bootup. Yours may have a more severe error?

You could check the video connector on the main board. Try swapping/removing RAM cards.

I got it to work. The HD cable came loose during travel. No biggie.

I still need to get an OS on it though. I picked a language and then read the terms and agreed to them, but when it asks me to pick a place to save the OS on to, the HD doesn't show.

I think I just have the wrong type of OS disks. It may be an upgrade disk and in order to upgrade I need an OS on it, but I know that the version that I got will run on the machine (It is 10.3).

Oh well, I will just have to finish this later. But at least the Disks can probably go to good use since I have an iMac G4 that I need to reinstall 10.3 on since the OS on there now has a bunch of passwords which limit its use.

what file system is the hard drive formatted as? If it's HFS Standard or FAT/32 it's not going to install. Also, if the drive was pre-formatted on a PC or a intel mac, it may be either MBR or GPT partition, in that case just format under OS X and you should be fine.

OS X 10.3 won't install on a disk that isn't formatted HFS+ (Either Journaled, or not journaled) and APM (Apple's Partition scheme)

You might need to get your data off and format it under OS X. your disc should show up then.
