PowerBook G3 Pismo Battery rebuild

Good afternoon, 

Ive got PowerBook G3 Pismo, one of the batteries was given to me that needs rebuilding, someone said to me that I am wasting my time as they have memory in them and will need to be reset?.

Ive already tested and tried to charge it and it wont charge at all as the charging symbol isnt there. So is that true that it has memory effect in it?

I'm eyeing on Panasonic 3500mah batteries

The actual circuit board inside supposedly had a cycle counter on it and based on that it could remember if it was "dead." I think there was a command that you could do from open firmware boot to clear it, but it has been over a decade since I had my Pismo. I've forgotten the command.
