I got a PowerBook G3 400 (FireWire) for $30. It came with the original box, 2 good batteries, power adapter, weight saver, DVD drive and 128MB RAM. Good cosmetic condition, good screen. But it would not start up unless the reset button on the back was pressed followed by vigorous pressing of the power button. Sounds like a failed power manager or something. Definitely a hardware problem, no amount of zapping or resetting helped.
I bought a new logic board, which fixed it, for $35. The logic board came with the bottom case, stiffener, all physical parts of the bays, screen latch, and also the sound board. I only needed the logic board and the IR window for my other Pismo, so the rest of this I might try selling on eBay or something, probably including the bad logic board and explaining the problem. Maybe it's fixable somehow. Someone might pay a few bucks to have a stab at it.
So I got a great Pismo setup for $30 + $35 = $65, minus whatever I get back for the leftovers. I think I did pretty well. I just need more RAM and an AirPort card, and this will be a really useful machine.
