I recently picked up a G3 PDQ without a charger and assumed it would work with my G4 charger but as I found out it's got a bigger plug. I'm trying to find the correct one with the larger power in plug, is it the M7332 or some other model?
Any charger intended for the following computers will work, so just get whichever one you can find for the cheapest.
- PowerBook Duos (note: these chargers can be quite unreliable)
- PowerBook 1400
- PowerBook 2400
- PowerBook 3400
- iBook G3 “Clamshell”
- Any other PowerBook G3
M7332 should work, but the older adapters can be cheaper and will work just as well. Older chargers may have reliability problems due to age and failing capacitors, etc. Just keep that in mind.
I can confirm that a yo-yo adapter which came with a G3 Clamshell works perfectly for my PDQ, also with a Lombard. And a PowerBook 1400 adapter with my Lombard at work - so those are obviously interchangeable.
One thing to note as well is there is in fact two different versions of the M7332. I seemed to have ordered the wrong one and if the seller doesn't know anything about what the difference is it's quite hard to tell.
The original charger for both WS and PDQ is M4402, a small rectangular black brick (pictured). When Lombard and Pismo were subsequently released, the charger was updated to M7332, which is the first-gen yo-yo adapter with the clear winding power cord. Subsequent versions of the yo-yo adapter had a darker winding power cord to match the Titanium PowerBook G4.
I don't recall what model number it was, but our PowerBook G3 Lombard definitely came with a black brick-shaped adapter, not the yoyo kind. I still have what's left of it somewhere I think.
But the clamshell iBook did come with a yoyo, and I would guess that the subsequent PowerBook G3 Pismo came with the yoyo as well.
