Have any of you upgraded the HD in your Powerbook A1095? Any suggestions on a faster HD? Can I buy any cloning software for the earler version of OSX that this laptop will run? Or is it a fresh install? I don't need a drive disk do I?
Anything over the stock HD in these machines will provide a boost - I'd look into the most modern 5400RPM drive you can get, like an 80 or 120GB part. Carbon Copy Cloner for PPC is a good choice and freeware:
Most of my PBs I did HD upgrades too I put in an SSD or CF SSD. You should get 100GB or better for it. It is a PATA/EIDE connector and that ribbon cable is flimsy to take your time and do it slow when you do it.
10.4 or 10.5 would be great for it. My PBs G3/G4s have 10.4 with OS 9.22 on it. It can boot from the Firewire, USB and IDE Ports. In theory is should boot from the PCMCIA. I have not tried booting my 17in from the PCMCIA but I have booted from the 1400s, 5300s and 190s I have through the PCMCIA.
Carbon Clone Copier is one of the best cloning software for it.
I think I have a ATA Solid state drive around the house here someplace. It is not very large - maybe 120GBs. I suspect I can format it in 1/2 if need be. I believe this new computer comes with a OSX disk. So maybe a fresh install would be best.
I am leaning towards the KingSpec unless someone can give me some feedback. The KingSpec has 28 reviews, and many are bad. One Mac user gave it 4 stars and said "I know its crazy but I put this in my old G4 Mac mini. It runs great now.".
