PowerBook 5300ce hard drive

I have found a HDD Toshiba MK4313MAT.Will it work with my PowerBook 5300ce or not?

Probably any IDE laptop HD will work, this one is pretty huge for the 5300 in terms of capacity, but don't see any reason it will not work.

On the other hand, fixing points are different  and probably you should hack something to keep it fastened.

I don't see any obvious reason why that wouldn't work, plus it's a nice size and a great price for a 5300. 

One of the nice things about SSDs is that you can be a bit more creative with the mounting options since they're lighter and don't vibrate. I have velcro on the one in my Mac Pro, while I'm using thick double sided tape in my first generation Macbook Air. Just be sure that you don't put too much stress on the ribbon cable with any mounting option-it's been a little while since I've been inside a 5300, so I don't recall the exact mounting configuration.

Just a warning on those Simpletech SSDs: They don't work in 1400s, unknown on other machines (don't have any other powerbooks). They'll throw a 0000000F / 00000003 sad mac and play chimes of death right after the bong. Happens in both a 1400cs/117 and a 1400c/166.

Yeah, 1400 tends to be picky with drives (more so than 190/5300 or others), that SimpleTech SSD works perfectly in both a PowerBook 190cs and ThinkPad 755CX (same vintage)... Swissbit also seems to fail on 1400s (think someone mentioned it on an earlier post here)... may want to consider a high speed CF card in an adapter or a small mSATA in an IDE adapter

Like my 1400, I use a CF in my 5300ce and 190 powerbooks when their hard drives failed failed long ago. It is the same set up as in my 1400, though I put it in a paper wrapper and taped it down so it would not shot out against the case.
