I suppose, because it comes from another MLAer, this doesn't really count as a liberation so much, but today I received my very own PowerBook 180, and the power adapter needed to bring my G3 PowerBook/500 back to life.

The 180 is in 14/120 configuration, and is in excellent physical condition. The hinge is great, the keyboard is very typable, and I'm really quite happy with the trackball.

I can't wait to get some software installed on it. I want to put Word5/Excel4/PowerPoint3 on it, along with like, superpaint, macdraw, filemaker II and probably ye olde pagemaker 4.2 on it. If not all of it fits, I'll probably just go for Word5, SuperPaint/MacDraw and the PageMaker.

I'm really excited about it, mainly because it'll be a machine I can have with me here at the university.

I'm actually not sure if they will, but thinking about it a bit, they probably will. [:P] ]'>

AH! i'd read it to meant that those were the apps which were already installed. thats what i get for reading while under the influence of tired.

i dunno, how big is old-school pagemaker? i know Office 4.2.1 alone is about 50MB for base install iirc.

Oldschool PageMaker is about 6 floppies, including some postscript fonts and printer drivers. (pm4.2)

the pagemaker from the same time as office 4.2.1 is pagemaker 6 or 6.5 though, which is much bigger. (although also much more useful.)

Just an update!

The 180 is suffering from the fact that I don't have anything for it here, so it's just hanging out in my room until I can find software for it, probably this summer.

The G3 is doing great! I don't remember the pismo being so slow, but I suppose it always has been about this speed.

Also, after having left the 180 plugged in for about two days, I unplugged it while running and noticed that it did not turn off, so I'm pretty excited about it's newly rediscovered battery life.
