Powerbook 17'' LCD/IPS replacement?

I had a search on the internet but can't seem to find any topics on this. Although the panel in the 17'' powerbook is ok, I think it is only TN and the contrast ratio isn't too great. I'm wondering if the part is replaceable with a more modern IPS display, does anyone know? Thanks

HI stormy,

Laptop LCDs typically aren't interchangable with other models owing to non-standard signals; there is no drop in replacement for a 17" PowerBook.

Are you sure? I have bought one of these

as a drop-in replacement for a PowerBook G4 12" - taking the resolution from 1024x768 up to 1440x900. Should be a great upgrade. I haven't installed it yet but plenty of guys on the net have done so successfully. I'm sure there will be a 17" panel to suit, maybe even a resolution upgrade too!

There are certain panel models that are interchangable with some portables but the majority are not "drop in" replacements.
