You cycle the battery by charging it until it reads full on the PowerBook, and then discharging it by running the PB on the battery until it goes dead.
The more you do this, the longer it should last. I don't know if you could get an hour out of it, though.
I took a video of what it's doing, just 'cause I was bored and wanted something to do. Y'all can watch it here. And yeah, the video quality sucks. My iPod was my only option since my camera needs charging.
Makes sense. The PB is three years older than me and as far as I know everything is original, so figured that something had to not work.
Do y'all have suggestions on where to find replacement batteries and displays for PowerBook 145? I'd like to use mine as an actual laptop sometime, it's actually faster than a lot of modern computers I use.
Modern computers can be fast if they are configured correctly, and with the right hardware, But of course thats not the point here
Anyway, I MAY have a spare LCD. ill have to dig around and look. I have more PB1XX parts than I know what to do with.
As far as a replacement battery, you will be lucky to find one of those. You will most likely need to take it to a batteries plus or something like that and get it rebuilt.
Do all Batteries Plus shops rebuild batteries that old? That's probably my only option out here. I'm not hundreds of miles removed from human civilization or anything, but a town this small doesn't have much in the way of things like that.
Yea i know the feeling. Yes they will rebuild the battery, as its not a lithium ion or anything. Those lithium batteries are tricky to rebuild because you have to know how to reset the controllers as old ones were not self learning. So when they registered and flagged themselves as dead, it was done. But i digress...
We got a batteries plus here not too long ago. Before that, it was in Columbus which is an hour or two drive from here.
Will definitely take a look and see. In your experience what has having a battery similar to PB 145 refurbished cost? I want to get a fair price since budget is an issue for me.
And the battery is definitely toast. The PB astutely pointed out in an error, "Your battery has failed to charge and may need to be replaced. Check the power adapter and electrical outlet connections."
It was that message that reminded me to check back on this thread.
Yeah, oddly, you can still find these recent production NiCd batteries for the 1xx series, while the Pismo li-ion batteries are about vanished. Go figure.
