Powerbook 1400 floppy drive power problems?

In this thread, Macdrone told me that using a floppy drive on a Powerbook 1400 would cause a power IC to blow. Has anyone else had or heard of this problem? It's not that I don't believe Macdrone, I just want a second opinion. I find it odd that Apple would make compatible floppy drives for this machine if it would blow an IC. I don't have a Powerbook 1400 yet, but I will hopefully be getting one soon and I don't want to break it right away.

I'm saying my 1400 came to me dead, found a direct set of ICs for backup and replacement in the power area. For whatever reason the floppy is drawing too much power, maybe from age and popping one of the IC's in the power area. It's the same type of floppy (the drive mechanism itself) that's in the 500 series and it writes 400k floppies.

No, it will not. The PB 1400 (c, cs) came with an optional floppy drive for its expansion bay, which works just fine.
