Powerbook 100 HD Ribbon

Is the foil over the ribbon necessary. Mine is pretty messed up. What does it do? Do I still use it over my Zulu drive?

I have got two PWB 100, never seen this before,

It's some kind of RF shielding and also protects the (paper thin) PB100 ribbon. I've seen it before, it's not necessary but you can either put back what you have or use aluminium tape to replicate the shield/protection.
