Power Macintosh 6500/225 (from WeirdStuff)

JRL

68000
I went to the famous WeirdStuff Warehouse in Sunnyvale again. I might have just gone on a bad day (also hadn't been there in about 2 years or so), but their vintage Mac related pickings weren't as plentiful as they once were. I figured as much though.

Still got a working 6500/225 for $60 (negotiated down from $100). $60 was still very much overpaying in my mind, but I had never been able to find one locally in the past, and I figured it'd serve as a good replacement for my 5500/250 which has had weird motherboard issues for ages now.

Also got an extra PB 5xx series power adapter and Dove branded PB 1xx series modem (unused in original box) for a princely sum of $5 for both. Pretty happy, considering that the 5xx adapters can be annoying to find on their own.

$60!?! Count that change from your Benjamin and be happy, don't worry. You got it for far less than the cost of shipping. :approve:

I stuck a 6500 board into my 6400 machine. They look kind of cool but the insides were designed by a crack addict.

I think even Tyrone Biggums could put together something better than the 64xx/65xx series.

EDIT: That being said, they're still not inherently bad machines for their time and they're noticeably better at staying in one piece than the Spindler plastic fun that is the 8xxx series.

I was at Weird Stuff a week ago, and I took a photo of their pre-Intel Macintosh stuff. Maybe your 6500 is in this photo? Honestly I was surprised they had anything at all - usually they only have a couple of more recent iMacs or something.

I think it was two Imagewriter I's, two Imagewriter II's, a Personal LaserWriter, a PowerMac 7500/100, and two PowerMac 8500/150's.

In another area of the store, I found some beat-up ADB trackballs. I think there were different models of the Kensington Turbo Mouse.

I picked up a 23" Cinema HD they had when I visited there this past Saturday. All those Power Macs, ImageWriters, and the Personal LW were still there. The towers are missing bezels, as BMOW's photo shows.

I took a look at the 9500s when I was there - they were both really rough (neither had hard drives and the one I opened to check didn't seem to have RAM either) and one was missing the power button on the front as well. They had them for $45 each I think but I'm sure they would take something much lower (like $25) if you really wanted one.

They used to have substantially more ADB peripherals a while back but people must have snapped them all up.
