Power mac g4 HD

Hello, everyone. I used to own a 1999 G4 graphite. But it's no longer operational. The reason is that I require for drum scanner. I'm going to have to buy another one. Without reprogramming, I can simply insert the hard disk into the new one, or I'll need to reinstall and copy all the data. I don't want to lose all the drivers (SCSI, etc.) and programs installed for the scanner. Additionally, I need to purchase the same G4 graphite, or I can opt for a G4 quick silver or even a Mirror. Could you please assist me with this matter? David

It depends on what model you move the hard disk into, and what OS it’s running.

If it’s an identical model, or one that can run the OS that’s currently installed, then you’ll be able to just switch the HDs around.

If you upgrade it to a newer model, you’ll still be able to switch the hard disks, but if the OS on that hard disk is too old for that model you’ll need to install an upgrade, which should just go over the top of the existing install.

Alternatively it’s possible your existing G4 could be repaired.. could you give some info on what’s wrong with it?

I had OSX and OS9.2.2. The scanner is working on both system. In my hometown Milan, I could buy a power mac G4 quicksilver, with OSX installed. Wha do you think?
Well the battery leaked. The motherboard dead, the power supply dead.

I think it'll work for you on QuickSilver. I cloned the same OS9 and Sorbet Leopard installation from a GE to a QS, and it works. If you have a chance to test the computer first, just plug in your hard drive and hit the button.

It’ll depend on the version of OSX but even if it doesn’t likely an upgrade to a slightly newer version will work, although make sure the drum scanner software works with that.. scanners are notoriously bad for driver updates

You can apply the COMBO update for the version you already have installed. I have done this in the past to fix problems. It is not necessary to update to a higher version.

Well that depends.. if it’s currently running 10.0.0 and they end up with a MDD they’ll need at least.. 10.2? So the combi update won’t work in that situation.
