Potential Conquest?

Saw this big haul on CL today:

NICE example of a 512K. I know storage is at a premium at my place but I'm considering it if we can work out a good offer.

I really want one of those LaserWriters! The iMac G3 on the bottom of the pile intrigues me a little too.

Any opinions? I'm going to send this guy an e-mail just to see what he's looking for.

It's a lot to sort through, but it does look nice -- one of the things I've always had problems with is finding reasonably large Apple displays (It wasn't until 2006 or 2007 when I got my first Apple display at larger than 14-inches) so that MCD16 or MS17 in the pile is intriguing to me -- and this will sound odd, but I would definitely go for it to get that PC case at the upper left of the pile of towers, with the sliding door that will cover the drive bays. We had a bunch of machines like that at my high school (Woefully old even at the time) but I always liked the case -- it would be good as a disk box or possibly as a machine on which to run NT4 Server, for some appletalk + SMB file hosting action.

Also if you don't have a modern stationary printer, the laserjet 2100/2200 on the left is less than 20 years old, has cheap cartridges, and if it has a jetdirect, can be printed to by anything under the sun. The LWP600/640 or 16/600PS on the far right side is probably a good catch too -- those use the same carts as the big laserjet 4s, Xerox has a toner cartridge available that's rated for 15,000 pages. Plus, the 16/600PS can also be printed to by just about anything under the sun.

The UMAX and PowerComputing towers in that pile look fairly high-end too, an S900 and probably the equivalent from PowerComputing.

Hi,

I'd love to get that 512k!

Even if the seller is willing to let go of it for relatively cheap, shipping to California will probably be prohibitively expensive (on the other hand, maybe not :) )

The rest of it I can live without, although the Quadra might be interesting (I wonder if it's an 840av?)

I'm really hoping that Quadra turns out to be an 840av. I'm willing to bet it's not, but then again, the potential has me excited.

The LaserJet would be a hidden perk of this conquest. It would be a nice compliment to the 1022 I'm using with most of my Macs, plus I need something better for my iBook than the Stylus 740 I have on there now.

I'm still waiting back to hear from the seller.

Hi,

I contacted the seller, and asked about the Mac 512k. I offered him $200 (I know, incredible low ball), and when he responded, he seemed to want at least $300, perhaps more, so we'll see how that goes.

I'm also vying for the Quadra, but I haven't had a clear answer about that yet.

Unfortunately, I think I'm too far away for it to work...

...but it's worth a try!

The Quadra at the lower left of the pile is an 800 (or possibly an 8100) -- 840avs have only one button, and it's up by the top of the machine.

The other thing I'd think about is whether the seller wants it all gone at once, or is willing to let individual pieces (such as just the 512k or just an iMac or Quadra) go. The description makes me think he's trying to get rid of all of it at once.
