Please help me to decipher this Sad Mac Code...

A Macintosh 512K has been passed along to me -- I had a quick look inside for obvious indications of damage, didn't find any (and the Logic Board seemed to be in much better condition than I would have expected). It powers on, but I do get a Sad Mac code -- 016AFF. I think I understand this to indicate that a ROM test failed, so anything after the class code is effectively meaningless -- but additional insight would be welcome.

Assuming that the issue is indeed with one or both of the ROM chips, how difficult is it to obtain replacements?

Otherwise, what should I be on the lookout for in terms of points of failure? (I was told the Floppy Drive may not be working properly, I was planning to clean it and check for broken gears.)

Any advice would be very much appreciated!

If you need replacement ROMs, you should look at the Rominator which installs new ROMs and allows booting FROM the ROM.
I am somewhat reluctant so spend $80-$90 without confidence that the problem is with either or both of the ROM chips -- but that's certainly something I'm considering!

If you can solder it yourself it's maybe 25 percent of that cost, but yeah, I would try replacement roms 1st to keep it simple.

I have a spare set of newly made 512k ROMs they're yours for the cost of shipping.
That would be very much appreciated — and if all goes well, I would be happy to pass them along to someone else in need. I think I’m sold on the idea of Kay Koba’s Rominator kit, and I was thinking of getting the version with the extra working ROM chips.

(I’ll PM you off-line. Thanks again!)

Well just let me know I’d be happy to ship them to ya, just PM me and we can work it out.
