Performa 600

So I picked up a Performa 600 untested from a pawn shop for $15.  Brought it home, powered it on.  The power supply powers up, the hard drive spins up, but no chime and no video.

I replaced the PRAM battery (93) and no change.

I stripped everything off the motherboard, no change.

I inspected the top of the motherboard and do not seen any busted or leaky caps or any burn marks on the board.

Any suggestions on what to try next or should I just cannibalize it for parts?

Caps can be bad without looking leaky. You may also have bad RAM or other issues.

I have stripped everything from the motherboard with the exception of the power supply and still no chime or video.

You found a pawn shop that still has old Macs? Man I wished I lived where you live.

I do know the music store in my town has an old PowerPC Mac (similar in design to what you have), but never did see (or recall) the exact model. It was in the back office though and I don't think they are going to sell it.

But yeah, check the RAM and the other removable hardware to try and find out the issue. But if all else fails it may need to have the capacitors replaced.

My own low-tech first step in such cases is to wash the logic board in a dishwasher or in the sink and dry for a week or so, then I re-assemble the machine and try booting it.

Cleaning the capacitor goo off the logic board, where it has a tendency to wreak havoc, can usually allow a marginal machine to at least boot. Next comes re-capping.
