Performa 200 on eBay

I've got a nice little Performa 200 in sharp condition. It makes me curious to see what this one goes for. I've never seen one on eBay before. My avatar is the picture I took of it.

 
Yep! Folk seem to be going nuts for compacts on eBay in the UK at the moment for some reason. Notice the postage is stupidly high on that auction too...

Wow, how strange, that's crazy! I'll have to think about selling my Compact if that is the case! :) Though then again there's an SE/30 just underneath that Classic in the "Vintage Mac" section and it's only at 99p at the moment, and SE/30s are the most sought after Compact aren't they?

It really depends on the description. The SE/30 auction description page is not very good and the seller is only accepting local pickup, hence it hasn't received any bids. If a machine is complete, photographed working, well described and the seller is willing to post, it will generally sell quite well at the moment. I sold a spare, stock Mac Plus earlier this year and I got £35 for it - I offered postage but the guy who bought it lived near me and came round to pick it up!

Of course, the really hot auctions are the ones for Colour Classics- they're making loads at the moment. I actually had the chance of four free CCs about 5 years ago and I only took one - really regret that now! :( I'm certainly hanging onto the one I did get!

 
Wouldn't posting a Compact be nearly impossible though? - the way the Royal Mail handle stuff I'd be very surprised if the screen didn't get broken on the way. I wonder how much mine would sell for, as I have the carry-bag and the little box with all the disks, instructions, warranty forms etc - I don't really think of it as being worth anything but who knows... (assuming it still works, I haven't had it out for a while now)

 
Royal Mail would probably try their best to break it. Fortunately I've never had to send CRTs in the post and, based upon the stories I've heard, I am going to try and keep it that way!

Compacts are worth hanging on to if you have one though as they're sweet little machines and are starting to become a little scarce. From the value point of view they seem to be on the way up so there may well come a time when a Classic will command £100 or more!

I have had several compacts sent through the mail (not overseas though!), and never had a broken CRT. Even that disaster (some may remember the rant on the pre-crash forum) that destroyed an SE FDHD saw the CRT survive intact, but the case was destroyed from being thrown around by the post office. Part of the problem here though was crappy packing by the eBay seller :O
