PCI card with video-in

Hi all,

This is a newbie question — I have never done this before.

What PCI card with video-in do you recommend? It will either go in my B&W G4 or into my daughter's PM7300/800. I would rather one with the yellow RCA-input and s-video-in than just s-video-in. I have some video cassettes that I want to digitise.

What software would people recommend to go with said cards.

Also, it'd be a plus if the card also runs in System 7 (so that I can use eventually in the PM7300/800)

thanks very much

The ATI XClaimVR 128 will work with System 7 and has video capture via the excellent ATI Theater chip, it does NOT support OS X for capture, only VGA video out. I don't recommend using old Macs (or old computers in general) for analog video capture though. The older Powermacs don't have the I/O throughput to capture full frame video lossless with the stock SCSI. You need a UDMA133 IDE hard drive controller and matching modern 7200rpm drive.

I'm sorry, but if your solution is a good one, don't say bad thing about SCSI stuff !

Try a quadra 950 with a Raster ops 24XL TV

and an SCSI card 2 channels .. do not need Power mac !

Thanks for the responses. I'll keep an eye out for bothe of the cards.

Hi NJRoadfan,

My wife has a mac mini. I have seen USB devices for digitising video. I could get one of these, I suppose. I have a beefy PC too, but since video capture has been done on macs since the early 90's, I figured that at least one of mine is good enough. My B&W mac has a Sonnet (almost) 1GHz G4 processor upgrade, an Adaptec 29160 64-bit PCI card and a 10K U320 drive and a 1GB RAM. I reckon that this should do for analogue video.

Hi Mac in France,

It's funny that you should mention the Quadra 950. I have just upgraded the RAM to 208MB - a lot of 30-pin SIMMs. I do have a FWB Jackhammer card and a 15K U320 drive I could put in there.
