Hi, I'm moving my PowerBook 5300 logic board to a separate, small computer case, and would like some advice please. Specifically, the Power Supply Board (part #661-1056) ; it's removable from the main logic board and the battery plugs directly into this. Is it safe to remove this if I no longer intend to use a battery? Or is it required when running the 5300 from mains power too? (It seems like it might be). It would be useful to transplant only the fundamental parts, which is why I'm asking.
I'm choosing to move the main logic board and components to a separate case as it suits my setup needs. Because I wear strong specs, the 5300's screen - whilst bigger than some other models - seems too uncomfortably small (my glasses shrink everything by about ⅓). I've recently bought an ADB-USB adapter (Wombat brand) which has a built-in switch to power up the 5300 and it works beautifully. I figure that the 5300 would make a great desktop Mac, now that I have this useful accessory...though it could be viewed as sacrilege by some I guess :/
I've no need for the floppy drive but will be moving the PCMCIA unit too (this is fixed in place anyway isn't it?).
